The All-Star Game is losing it’s Fame
Today is the first day the the All-Star ballots are open and fans can start voting.
It is too early to tell who the All-Stars are this year! The early balloting is why the regulars, Jeter, A-Rod, Ichrio, etc… always get in no matter how well they are playing. This is the only third week of the season, the players are still warming up and adjusting again to playing on a regular basis. It is unfair to the players the ballots are open so early. It makes the honor of the All-Star game less meaning.
I say, start the All-Star ballots June 15th. It’s 4 weeks prior to the Mid-Summer Classic, and it proves which players deserve to be there or not. And then close the ballots 2 weeks before the All Star game and announce it 10 days before. Or something like that…just don’t start the ballots Game 14 of the season!
Unlucky game #13
Last nights game against the Angels, was a rendezvous of last season. Meaning, we kept leaving men on base, and lack of run support for the pitcher!
Leaving 8 men on base and not scoring once is pathetic. Dontrelle Willis pitched an excellent game and it’s sad his teammates could not back him up. He was going for his second win while with the Tigers since 2008. 6 innings, 4 hits and 2 runs is beyond incredible for Willis, and yet a ‘L’ is going to go next to his name.
Also, in last night’s game, what was up with the starting pitcher for the Angels, Pineiro, kicking the baseball around like it was a soccer game. At least once it was in our favor that he kicked it the wrong way, but the other times it seemed like it favored his team. It was annoying to watch that.
It was great to see Rodney! I wouldn’t want to be his opponent, he is a dominent pitcher and no wonder we lost the game. I put him as a closer up with Bobby Jenks and Joe Nathan. Let’s hope we don’t see him tonight.
A little late, but Welcome 2010 season!
Due to being on a vacation since April 7th, I finally saw my first full game yesterday. Likely, I had internet access while I was away, so I got to see highlights and follow the box score, but it’s not the same as actually watching the game live in HD!
I am so excited for this season. Austin Jackson and Scott Sizemore adds excitement and enthusiasm to the team that was desperately needed. Like I said in previous posts and if you know me I have been saying since 2007 how inconsistent Justin Verlander can be. He had a good 2006 and 2009 season, in between was as of an average pitcher. I hope he can have a great season, he is a good pitcher, but I’m not in love with him as everyone else is.
I am so excited for Dontrelle Willis and Jeremy Bonderman. I have felt so bad for Willis since he got injured in 2008, and Bonderman has been one of my favorite pitchers since before he got injured. They are looking not 100% but I believe they need a few games under their belt and they will back like before!
The trade of Nate Robertson was sad, but it had to be done. Since he has been one of the three that were still left from the almost historic 2003 season, I was sad to see him go. But he was going to be the bullpen to start the season, and with him being outspoken about his dislikes with that from last year, I’m sure he was happy to be traded where he can be a starter. And he is doing excellent with the Marlins with just pitching 6 2/3 scoreless inning yesterday. I wish him the best of luck.
My predication for the 2010 season: 94-68 W/L record
Winning the Central (without a tie-breaker game!) and winning the World Series!
I love the Tigers and I’m sooo excited for this season!!!
I miss you, Granderson
I think you know by the title of the entry what the following post will say.
I miss you sooo much Curtis Granderson!!! I have disagreed with Dombrowski, or what I like to call him, Dumbrowski, numerous times on the free agent signings and trades he has done. Like all the other fans, this trade was the worst. Granderson was the face of the organization, he was the face in the Detroit community. What he has done to promote education in Michigan is incredible. It will be impossible to replace him.
It really didn’t hit me yet that Grandy wasn’t with us anymore until I saw him play with the Yankees earlier this week and then the game yesterday.
However, Granderson is not a power hitter, and his average against southpaws is terrible. His defense sure makes up for his batting average though. I’m glad he got 2 hits and a walk against us yesterday. He is a very smart player and he will know how to hit against us.
But what did we get in return for Granderson? Young talent which Dumbrowski will soon enough trade away for old veterans. Austin Jackson does look pretty good, but is he ready? Phil Coke is in the bullpen…he is young and not really consistent.
But what is also overlooked during this trade was the trade of Edwin Jackson. It was a three way trade…and the Arizona Diamondbacks got E. Jackson. Ugh what another let down. E.Jackson was amazing last year for us. He was one of 3 starting pitchers in which we could count on every game. (Verlander and Porcello the other 2) I will sure miss him.
I guess the lesson learned here is realizing baseball is a business. I get too attached to these players and it’s hard for me to accept the realization that they could leave any day. Dumbrowski is unpredictable and he is losing creditability with the fans. Someday I will be General Manager, and when the day happens we will have the best all-around team!!
I do have an opinion about the signing of Johnny Damon…I don’t like him, but Dumbrowski was smart enough to only sign him for 1 year for $8million. I sure hope Damon does something. I’d rather see Raburn, Thomas, or Guillen in outfield than Damon….
Why couldn’t Dumbrowski spend that $8 to try to get Polanco back????
We traded 2 All-Stars and let one 1 All Star get away…I love my Tigers but sometimes I wonder.

The Virtual Line for Tickets
At 9:30 a.m. I running throughout my house collecting all the computers. I have a laptop, and my mom has a desktop and a laptop, so it was my duty this morning to set-up the computers and wait in “line”. Like I do every year on this date and for playoff tickets, I have my credit card ready and the computers lined up nicely. Finally the clock turns 10, and my heart beats fast as I am quickly clicking the little green T boxes on the calendar.
After 45 minutes of waiting in numerous “waiting rooms” and getting up to the point of actually selecting the seats, my hopes are diminishing. But OH WAIT, I got in! Thinking that the tickets were limited, I go for Best Available and then I get the option for seats in the Tigers Den. It’s not that bad of a price, so I go for it and buy those. My mom also wanted to get tickets for the previous day so we would go to two games back to back. While the three computers are in waiting rooms again, I get the option to buy tickets in the On-Deck Circle! I have always wanted to sit that close. Tickets were not cheap, but it was worth it my mom says!! So I was like OKAY!
Just out of my curiosity, after I got those tickets, I tried to see what I could get in the Mezzanine level (my favorite). I could have gotten row 3 in that section for only $19. I was pretty upset knowing I could have sat there for ALOT cheaper. Oh well, I never sat in the on-deck circle before so it will be a new experience.
Yes, I got tickets for Wednesday and Thursday May 12-13 against the Yankees. I hate the Yankees but of course like all the other devoted and band-wagon fans out there, I wanted to see my man, Curtis Granderson. It looks like I will be very close.
It looks like as for now, that will be the only games I will be going to this year. I do not know where I will be living starting in July. We have one game in April to go to (refund from the September ’09 rain out game), and these 2 in May. That is 2 weeks before I go to Ireland. So, I will be missing alot of games in May-June which makes me sad, but then again I will be in Ireland!
Look for a similar post in October when tickets go on sale for the Tigers Playoffs!!!!
